Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you work with?
We provide services for adolescents and adults, with ADHD and Autism assessments available from age 13 and older.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes, both psychological therapy and counselling services are available via telehealth and in-person at our Brisbane clinic. Many people wonder about the effectiveness of Telehealth compared to traditional face-to-face therapy. Recent research suggests that Telehealth can be just as effective, if not more so, than in-person therapy for a variety of mental health concerns. Post-COVID research indicates that there’s no difference in treatment outcomes between face-to-face therapy sessions and Telehealth sessions (read here). In fact, a systematic review of psychology delivered via Telehealth has demonstrated comparable or even better results than traditional face-to-face therapy (read here). Additionally, systematic reviews comparing Telehealth and face-to-face therapy for anxiety disorders have found no significant differences in outcomes (read here). Telehealth is a modern and easy way to access mental health support. It’s convenient, flexible, and just as effective as in-person therapy.
Do I need a referral?
No.
We welcome referrals from medical professionals, but you do not need one to schedule an appointment. A referral, however, will enable you to access 10 rebated sessions (per calendar year) under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan.
How do Medicare rebates work?
Clients referred by a doctor with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) can claim a Medicare rebate of $98.95 per session for up to 10 psychology consultations per year (January–December). Reports to your GP are a Medicare requirement.
To claim Medicare rebates, you will need an MHCP from your GP addressed to NuScope Psychology. You can either bring it to your first appointment or ask your GP to email it to hello@nuscopepsychology.com.
Once your invoice is paid in full, your Medicare rebate claim will be processed within one business day following your session.
Please note that under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare does not provide rebates for assessment costs or for other services we offer, such as reports and additional documentation.
What funding options are available?
We accept Medicare, WorkCover Queensland, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), and provide NDIS services for eligible participants.

Moving Beyond the Deficit Model We are witnessing a profound shift in how we understand ADHD and neurodevelopmental differences. For too long, the medical model has treated brain differences as deficits, problems to be diagnosed or fixed. While both PTSD and Complex PTSD stem from overwhelming experiences, they differ in important ways, from what causes them to how they affect your daily life.
