Therapy Services

For many people, taking the first step towards seeking psychology services can be daunting. Just getting to this page shows courage and determination.

At our practice, we understand how challenging it can be to reach out for support. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive space where you can feel heard, valued, and understood.

In therapy, we embark on a collaborative journey exploring emotions, thoughts, and memories to make sense of life experiences. At times, it can involve vulnerability and emotional intensity, while at other times, it can be playful and enlightening. Therapy can help us discover our authentic selves and nurture our ability to envision a meaningful future.

No matter what challenges you're facing, we're here to help you navigate them with compassion, empathy, and expertise. We use evidence-based approaches with the aim to enhance psychological well-being, improve daily functioning, and reduce distress. All treatment is tailored to each client's unique needs using a range of evidence-based modalities, including Eye movement desensitisation therapy (EMDR), Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR helps process traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation, a technique that helps the brain process and heal from painful experiences.

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

    Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

ACT helps accept difficult thoughts and feelings while focusing on what truly matters, promoting mindfulness and value-driven actions.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT teaches how to challenge and change unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours, leading to improved emotional well-being and healthier habits.

  • Parts Work

Parts work explores the different aspects of the self to promote healing and integration, helping to resolve inner conflicts, improve emotional balance, and promote a greater sense of wholeness.

Common Questions

  • In a therapeutic context, psychology involves a collaborative relationship between a psychologist and a client. The psychologist provides support and guidance as the client explores their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, they work towards identifying goals and implementing evidence-based interventions tailored to the client's needs.

It's important to note that the title "psychologist" is protected and regulated by organizations like the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Psychologists undergo rigorous training and education to ensure they meet professional standards and provide quality care to their clients.

  • We welcome referrals from medical professionals, but you do not need one to schedule an appointment.

A referral, however, will enable you to access 10 rebated sessions (per calendar year) under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan.

  • The fee for a general Psychologist is $230 per 50-minute session, or per hour where applicable.

(Medicare rebate: $96.65, out of pocket: $133.35)

  • To access Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, referred to NuScope Psychology, and emailed to hello@nuscopepsychology.com.

To obtain your rebate in a timely manner, please arrange for your plan to be sent to us prior to your initial appointment. After your invoice is paid in full, your Medicare rebate claim will be processed within one business day following your session.

You can access 10 rebated sessions (per calendar year) under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan in 2023.

Medicare does not offer rebates for assessment costs, or for other services we provide such as reports and additional documentation.

  • Psychology can be a journey of varied lengths for different people. Some might find a few sessions sufficient to address their concerns, while others may see psychology as a longer-term journey toward personal growth and healing. The first step is to ensure your therapist feels like the right fit for you. Following that, you'll have a discussion about your needs and goals, and together, you'll estimate the timeframe needed to work through the issues at hand. For many treatment protocols 8-10 sessions is a minimum.

  • Many people wonder about the effectiveness of Telehealth compared to traditional face-to-face therapy.

Recent research suggests that Telehealth can be just as effective, if not more so, than in-person therapy for a variety of mental health concerns. Post-COVID research indicates that there's no difference in treatment outcomes between face-to-face therapy sessions and Telehealth sessions (read here). In fact, a systematic review of psychology delivered via Telehealth has demonstrated comparable or even better results than traditional face-to-face therapy (read here). Additionally, systematic reviews comparing Telehealth and face-to-face therapy for anxiety disorders have found no significant differences in outcomes (read here).

Telehealth is a modern and easy way to access mental health support. It's convenient, flexible, and just as effective as in-person therapy.
